Description:
The RHA method is an integrated approach to rock classification using both geochemistry and mineralogy utilising three parameters; R, H and A.
‘R’ is ‘rank formula’ which is a rating of the elemental composition of rocks or minerals.
‘H’ is information entropy (Shannon, 1948), a measure of composition complexity
‘A’ is anentropy (Petrov, 1971), a measure of composition purity.
Ordering of R`s of chemical compositions is made according to Periodic system of elements used as an alphabet.
The method provides for a coding of geochemical and mineral composition which is useful for 1) creation of databases with a "composition" input, 2) representation of collections of analyses and evolutionary processes on an НА diagram.
A course of lectures will provide:
1. An acquaintance with the theoretical foundations of the RHA method as proposed by T. Petrov,(1971).
2. The data processing of the chemical composition of minerals, rocks, and mineral compositions of rocks will be shown.
3. Techniques for working with the original PETROS software will be demonstrated with examples of processing minerals and rock analyses.
4. Improvements in nomenclature and classification of rocks will be shown based on rock chemistryand mineral composition.
5. The construction of diagrams reflecting rock composition and processes that change or affect these compositions.
The RHA method provides a uniform approach to different geological analytical materials and is unique in the scientific literature.
