Prof Walter Maresch

Title of Presentation:  IMA Presidential Lecture:  To be or not to be an eclogite, that is the question:  The amphibolite-eclogite transition revisited

Walter V. MARESCH was born in Europe and grew up in Canada. He received degrees in Geosciences from the University of Toronto and from Princeton University. He was a research scientist in experimental petrology at the University of Bochum, Associate Professor of Petrography and Economic Geology at the University of Muenster, and Chair of Petrology at Bochum, from which he retired in 2009. Maresch is a Fellow of the Mineralogical Society of Americaand the Geological Society of America, a Foreign Honorary Fellow of the Russian Mineralogical Society, and Emeritus Fellow of the Mineralogical Society of Great Britain and Ireland. He served as Associate Editor, Chief Editor and Managing Committee Member of the European Journal of Mineralogy for over 20 years. Maresch was President of the German Mineralogical Society in 2000-2002. His interests lie in the crystal chemistry of rock-forming minerals and in the petrology of high-pressure rock and fluid-rock systems. His methodology is both laboratory- and field-oriented.
